Grade 1 Daily Routines
In first grade, every day begins with three simple, quick instructional routines of tremendous importance for beginning reading. In this demonstration, you will see Daily Routines from around the fifth week of school.

Grade 1 Guided Reading
In the Superkids program, all students have access to core grade-level text during reading instruction. These demonstration lessons show the differentiated approach to guided reading using one common text for first grade.

Grade 1 Sequence of Core Reading Instruction
In this video series, you will see excerpts from each of these core lesson components:

  • Daily Routine: This is the essential routine that “starts the day” with Daily Decoding, Daily Dictation and Spelling and Daily Handwriting.
  • Vocabulary Review: These vocabulary words are essential to the guided reading story which the children will read in their small groups.
  • Small Group Introduction: This short voiceover will explain how the groups are determined when using a single grade-level instructional text for all students.
  • Small Group Management: This excerpt will show a teacher sets up her groups and provides for meaningful independent work as the children rotate to teacher-led small group reading.
  • Small Guided Reading Groups: You can watch 3 different guided reading groups in action:
  • Checking comprehension: After the reading the teacher directs a lesson in whole group designed to assess children’s comprehension of the story.

Grade 2 Selections from Core Reading Instruction

  • Big Book of Decoding: One of the key components in the Daily Routine, this excerpt demonstrates the use of the Big Book of Decoding during the Decoding routine.
