The ability to memorize is a skill students will need throughout their education. Songs and other activities in the program provide mnemonic devices to aid memorizing.
Every day. Start each day with the Dictation and Spelling routine. This routine provides daily practice in spelling Memory Words as a well as words that contain newly learned phonetic or structural elements.
No. Children should be able to use the rules governing structurally regular words to spell words, but don't require them to memorize the rules word for word. The rules and example words are listed on the inside back covers of the Teacher’s Guides. Display a similar chart showing examples of the rules for children to use as reference as they read and spell words on their own.
Yes. The spelling tests suggested in the Teacher's Guides serve as a review and give you a way to assess children's mastery of the Memory Words.
